Samsung Galaxy Tab VS Apple iPad
South Korean electronics giant Samsung is all set to unveil its own tablet PC- the Galaxy Tab very soon. Leaked photographs and a video posted by Samsung suggest that the device will be a 7-inch tablet running Google's OS- the Android 2.2. The device is expected to give a tough competition to Apple's iPad (being called iPad killer by many). Will Samsung Galaxy Tab be a formidable iPad foe?
First of all, it has two cameras, where the iPad does not have any. The Galaxy Tab has a rear camera with a 3.2 megapixel resolution – not the greatest, but it is enough, because I don't think people would like to take photos with a 7" digital camera – and a front facing one, which will allow people to do some video conferencing and probably even use it as a webcam. This is a huge advantage, considering the imminent appearance of Skype for Android that will allow video calls.
One of the main problems with the iPad is text input. Despite people anticipating Apple to use their genius to solve the text input issue on tablet computers, Apple simply put a large qwerty keyboard on their device. Swype makes much more sense on a tablet, where holding the device in your hands and using both the thumbs to tap on the keyboard isn't probably the most convenient thing to do. We believe that having Swype in the holster is a great thing and will be a big USP for the Galaxy Tab.
The iPad had a 4:3 aspect ratio screen that is better suited for reading books and websites that are mostly arranged to work well with the standardized 1024x768 pixel resolution, but the Galaxy's aspect ratio is better: it is 16:10 widescreen, optimized for video playback.
Last, here is the aspect Apple was criticized the most for: the iPad (and any other device running iOS) lacks support for Adobe Flash, favoring HTML5 instead. The Galaxy Tab will run Google’s Android 2.2 Froyo, the first distribution of the free mobile operating system that officially supports Adobe Flash and includes the Flash Player 10.1. Beat that, iPad.
According to the comparison did above, we may clearly learn that Samsung Galaxy Tab is a great threat to Apple iPad, though iPad still shocks the market. However, no one will know what will happen in the future, but one thing we can assure is that Apple iPad still has a long way to go.
